In honor of the 2012 Summer Games in London, Baterbys will be sponsoring a local artist competition for aspiring and professional artists. Winning artists will be assimilated into the gallery’s art collection and showcased in the 6,000 sq. ft. gallery. Proceeds from this competition will benefit Special Olympics of Florida.

Baterbys Art Gallery is inviting artists across Orlando and Central Florida to create a work of art* inspired by any visual element that pertains to 2012 Games in London (colors of the 5 rings, 2012 London logo, city of London, etc.)

Artists can email pictures of their artworks along with their biographical information to artistcomp@baterbys.com. They can also drop off their artwork entries and printout of their biographies at Baterbys Art Gallery located at 9101 International Drive, Suite 1008, Orlando, FL 32819. The deadline for submission is July 24, 2012.

Though this is a juried competition, judging will include a social impact component. Followers, fans, friends and family members of the competing artists can vote for them in three ways. Firstly, by “liking” or “sharing” their individual profile pages set-up in the Baterbys website; secondly, by visiting Baterbys Art Gallery and placing their vote with the gallery consultants; and finally, on August 10 during the competition’s final judging night. All three means to vote can be utilized throughout the duration of the competition.The reception event for the competition is on Friday, July 13 at Baterbys.

Final entries will be auctioned off with a percentage of the proceeds donated to the Special Olympics, Orlando region. The winning artist(s) and their artworks will be featured in Baterbys Art Gallery for six (6) months with the opportunity of becoming a featured gallery artist for Baterbys’ monthly “Second Fridays” event. The competition offers an opportunity to novices to showcase their works in Orlando’s Best Art Gallery, and allows professional artists to exhibit a platform of inspiring work to a younger generation.
