The Story of The Three Kings
Some people might refer to it as "Travels of the Three Kings" or simply "They Will All Come From Saba," as we know it. The legend of the Magia, or wise men, who followed a star in the east to Bethlehem in search of a newborn king, is based on the Gospel of Matthew. Mary and the baby Jesus were there when they arrived, and they gave him presents of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. As non-Christians who acknowledged Christ's deity, the Magi are asserted to have played a significant role in the Epiphany, the manifestation of God to the world. The Excerpta latina barbari, a history, mentions Bithisarea, Melchior, and Gathaspa. Most people now refer to them as Balthasar, Melchior, and Gaspar (or Casper). In Western church tradition, Gaspar is frequently depicted as the king of India, Melchior as the king of Persia, and Balthasar as the king of Arabia or Ethiopia.
According to Dali & His bible by Richard Hart, "The selected verses for Dali's illustration They Will All Come From Saba describes God's intention to create a peaceful nation open to all spiritual seekers. Isaiah 60:4-6 creates a picture of people from far away nations traveling to Jerusalem with camels and caravans of goods with the hope of ultimately reaching the Promised Land." The three kings followed the star to Jerusalem reaching the promise land. Carrying gold and frankincense.
Dali's Surrealistic Interpretation
"They Will All Come From Saba" Saba meaning kingdom.
In Dali's version, he puts his surrealistic touch incorporating a rainbow of color and elephants with elongated legs. The star is defined well and bright to the viewer. The Three Kings are seen on the bottom right corner on what appears to be a camel, and two horses. Traditionally, The Three Kings were riding on camels.
