Gary Benfield was born in Birmingham, England in 1965. He studied art at the Stourbridge College of Art and the Wrexham College of Art. At 21 years of age, Benfield became a professional freelance illustrator. He eventually opened up his own studio near London, where he concentrated on drawing and painting human figures, particularly women. His paintings are spontaneous depictions of the human figure, with quick, sharp lines and dashes of color. Benfield’s work is reminiscent of Leonardo de Vinci’s sketches, with sepia tones, pencil work, and slight highlights of color. The figures in Benfield’s art intertwine, dance, and fuse together in a continuous sequence. He is considered to be one of the most renowned contemporary artists today, with his works purchased by art collectors worldwide.
