Raphael Abecassis, born in Marrakesh Morocco in 1953, studied art at The College of Education in Beersheva. He grew up in Israel and draws on Jewish traditions for most of his works. He includes Jewish symbols, sephardic motifs, and modern composition into his vibrant and colorful works of art. On display in numerous countries including Israel, Canada, and the United States, Abecassis’s works hold world wide recognition and he is considered a master of modern Jewish art. His works are a synthesis of the natural and the supernatural, the traditional and the modern, the decorative and the mystic. In subtly varied compositions, precise calligraphy and often freshly daring natural colors, Abecassis creates works of the finest aesthetic harmonies and formal perfection.

This abstracted work has components of the story of Adam and Eve along with Jewish symbolism. The rich green lands at the bottom of the piece could be alluding to The Garden of Eden. The Star of David creates a nice focal point in the busy, but harmonious, painting while also contrasting nicely against the cool blues in the background.
