This original lithograph is from a suite of 43 prints that comprise the Daphnis and Chloe series. This suite is considered by many to be his most colorful and technically superb collection. This lithograph shows the two title characters seated at a table with Chloe’s adoptive parents. Eros, the Greek god of love, flies above a tree in the upper left, ready to strike the couple with his arrow.

Chagall was a versatile artist who worked in almost every medium. In his work he fused multiple artistic styles with symbols from his Jewish heritage.
