Henri Matisse was born in France in 1869. He was a draughtsman, printmaker, sculptor, and a painter which he is most known for. He began his career as a lawyer and did not start painting until 1889 after getting appendicitis. During his healing time his mother brought him paint and Matisse later said, “From the moment I held the box of colors in my hands, I knew this was my life. I threw myself into it like a beast that plunges towards the thing it loves.”
Nus Bleus is a series Matisse created of a abstract nude female form. While the piece is very abstract and simple it is hard to not study the contorted blue woman and where her arms and legs seem to wander.
