Not many artworks can fly, but this one can and did all over the world. He considers it one of his favorite artworks, and certainly his biggest. Who designed it? Peter Max.

To commemorate New York City’s 2000 New Year’s Celebration, Continental Airlines had a Boeing 777 painted in special colors that were designed by Max. The plane would became known as the New York City Millenium plane. It featured the heart of Peter Max’s color combinations and sported his famous and iconic Lady Liberty face toward the tail end. With a piece of art that big, flying all over globe, and painted in the brightest array of colors, it was probably hard to miss.

The aircraft would remain with Max’s art scheme until the winter of 2007-2008. It was regarded as the “$160 million living canvas.” Watch below to see the incredible process of painting the special plane.

Memorabilia of this massive artwork are on display and available for sale at our Peter Max exhibition going on now through Nov. 18th! Check out our event page for more information.
